It’s week 12 of the Country Garden crochet along. This week we are making a border around our entire centre panel using the Camel stitch. There’s nothing more reminiscent of a country garden than a stripy lawn, so we will be using 3 different shades of green this week.

This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation are:
- Hdc (Half double crochet) = Half treble crochet

The Pattern

Round 1. With Colour A, join into any stitch around the edge with a standing hdc using both loops. You will be working into both loops in this round.
- The Rose Squares – make a hdc in each stitch, then make 3 hdc in the corner chain space
- The puff flower panel – make a hdc in the 1st dc, then skip to the 1st chain space. Make 3 hdc in each chain space then a hdc between the puff stitches. After the last chain space, skip between the puff and dc and make your last hdc in the final dc.
- The Wiggle Stitch – make a hdc in each double crochet, and a hdc in each chain space working between the wiggle stitches.
- The Tulip Panel – make a hdc in each stitch
- The Marigold Panel – make a hdc into the top of each dc and each popcorn. Make 3 dc in each chain space
When you get back to the start, slst into the beginning hdc with Colour B.
Round 2. Chain 1, and make a dc turning chain in the same stitch you slst into using the 3rd loop only.
In the 3rd loop only, make a hdc in each stitch around.
When you reach the middle stitch made in the chain space of the Rose squares, make 2 hdc.
When you get back to the beginning slst into the 3rd loop of the 1st hdc with Colour C
Round 3. Chain 1, and make a dc turning chain in the same stitch you slst into using the 3rd loop only.
In the 3rd loop only, make a hdc in each stitch around. When you reach the 2nd hdc in the corners stitch make 2 hdc. When you get back to the beginning slst into the 3rd loop of the 1st hdc with Colour A
Round 4. Chain 1, and make a dc turning chain in the same stitch you slst into using the 3rd loop only.
In the 3rd loop only, make a hdc in each stitch around. When you reach the 2nd hdc in the corners stitch make 2 hdc. When you get back to the beginning slst into the 3rd loop of the 1st hdc with Colour B
Round 5. Chain 1, and make a dc turning chain in the same stitch you slst into using the 3rd loop only.
In the 3rd loop only, make a hdc in each stitch around. When you reach the 2nd hdc in the corners stitch make 2 hdc. When you get back to the beginning slst into the 3rd loop of the 1st hdc with Colour C
Round 6. Chain 1, and make a dc turning chain in the same stitch you slst into using the 3rd loop only.
In the 3rd loop only, make a hdc in each stitch around. When you reach the 2nd hdc in the corners stitch make 2 hdc. When you get back to the beginning slst into the 3rd loop of the 1st hdc.
At the end of this round you should have 84 stitches down each long side and 73 on each short side making 314 stitches in total.
Cut off and weave in your ends. In the video I show a way of weaving in to help hide the join
