Week 42 of the Ray Of Hope crochet along features the 5 Pointed Star stitch which is also known as the Margeurite Stitch. This is easily one of the prettiest crochet stitches there is.

The free pattern is below, but if you’d like the ad free printable version, it is available either as part of my Lifetime Pattern Pass, or you can purchase it on its own for £5 from Ravelry

If you would like to follow my colour scheme, you can find the list of colours in both Scheepjes Softfun and Stylecraft Special DK in this document here

The pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below in brackets along with the abbreviations we will be using

  • Half double crochet (half treble) = hdc

The Pattern

You will need a 4mm hook for this stitch

With Colour P, make a chain of 81

Row 1. In the 2nd chain from your hook pull up a loop, then pull up loops in the next 4 stitches – you will have 6 loops on hook.

Yarn over and pull through all loops, then ch1.

*In the chain 1 you just made, pull up a loop. In the last spike of the previous star pull up a loop, pull up a loop in the last stitch the previous star was made in, then pull up a loop in next 2 stitches. You will have 6 loops on your hook.

Yarn over and pull through all loops and then ch1.* repeat between *and* then hdc in the last stitch.

Row 2. Turn, chain 1 and make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. Make 2 hdc in the ch1 of each star in the row. Finish the row with a hdc in the 2nd stitch of the previous row – 80 stitches

Row 3. Turn. Ch 3, in the 2nd chain from your hook pull up a loop, then pull up loops in the next 4 stitches – 6 loops on your hook.

Yarn over and pull through all loops, ch1. *In chain 1 pull up a loop. In the last spike of the previous star pull up a loop, pull up a loop in last stitch the previous star was made in, pull up a loop in next 2 stitches. Yarn over and pull through all loops then ch1.* repeat between *and* hdc in the last stitch.

Rows 4-8. Repeat rows 2 and 3, ending in a repeat of row 2.

The Border

With a 4mm hook, join with Colour E (your joining colour) and make a slip stitch into each stitch across the top and bottom. Down the sides make 2 slst into the side of each stitch in rows 2-7. In the side of rows 1 and 8 make just 1 slst.

You will have 14 slst across the short ends and 80 slst across each long side.

Weave in your ends, and join the piece to week 41
