Week 26 of The 50 Stitches Crochet Along

week 26 of the 50 stitches crochet along blog image
Week 26 of the 50 Stitches crochet along is the Star stitch. We’re making the 4 pointed version but there is also a 5 pointed version of this stitch too. The star stitch is also known as the Marguerite stitch, with the 4 pointed also known as the simple Marguerite stitch.

If you’d like to know how to crochet the 4 Pointed Star stitch for any size project you can see how here

You can find the links for all the squares in the crochet along here. The free pattern is below, but if you’d like the ad free printable version, it is available either as part of my Lifetime Pattern Pass, or you can purchase it on its own for £5 from Ravelry

This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below.

UK Translation

Half double crochet (Hdc) = Half treble crochet

The Pattern

You will need a 3.5 mm hook for this square

Start by making a foundation chain of 32

Row 1. In second chain from your hook, pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull up a loop in the next 3 stitches.

Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook. Chain 1.

*pull up a loop in the eye of the star. Yarn over and pull up a loop in the last stitch from the previous star. Yarn over and pull up loops in the next 2 stitches. Yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook. Chain 1*

Repeat between *and* across the row. Make a hdc in the last stitch.

Turn

Row 2. Chain 1 and make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. In the eye of each star in the row below, make 2 hdc. Hdc in the top of the turning chain in the last row.

Turn

Row 3. Chain 3. In second chain from your hook, pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull up a loop in the next chain. Skip the first stitch of the row. Yarn over and pull up a loop in the next 2 stitches.

Turn

Rows 4 – 16. Repeat rows 2 and 3

The Border

In each stitch across the top and bottom make 1 sc.

For the sides, make 1 sc in rows 1 and 16. Make 2sc in the side of all other rows

You should have 30 sc down each side, plus an extra stitch in each corner for the turn. This will make your stitch count as 32 stitches across each side and 124 stitches total (remember the extra stitch corner stitch is counted in the stitch count for both sides)

You have now finished your square and join and you can tie off and weave in the ends

You can now add the interlocking border, joining this weeks square to last weeks as you join. You can see how to do this here

If you have any questions about the pattern or the CAL, then come on over to the Facebook group – 50 Stitches where you can show us your completed squares too.
