Lace Snowflake Crochet Pattern

I love snowflakes. There’s just something so magical about them. They are so delicate, the way they flutter down from the sky. Christmas just isn’t complete without at least a dusting of snow.

I love to bring snowflakes inside too as part of my Christmas decor, which is why I have designed this beautiful lace snowflake crochet pattern. To bring the delicate nature of snowflakes inside. To make their magic part of my festive decorations and create my very own indoor snow flurry.

These lace snowflakes are made with size 10 cotton thread and a 2mm hook. They only have 7 rounds, so won’t take long to complete.

They do need to be blocked and stiffened once you have finished crocheting them, otherwise they won’t take shape. But the effort is well worth it.

These beautiful delicate looking snow flakes look just wonderful hanging up in your windows, hung on your Christmas tree, or even joined into a garland and strung across your wall or above your fireplace.

What colour would you make your snowflakes in? Traditional Christmas colours, or something a bit more modern? How about in rainbow colours like this one I made in Aunt Lydias Cotton thread in Mexicana

The snowflakes do need to be blocked and stiffened before they can be displayed, but this isn’t too difficult to do. You will need some pins, a thick piece of cardboard, a paint brush and fabric stiffener such as Hi-Tac fluid.

Start by pinning the centre rounds into place, then arrange the outer rounds to match. Once you’re happy with the positioning, paint your snowflake thoroughly with the stiffening fluid. If you find the fluid too thick for the snowflake to absorb, add a few drops of water and then it will work just fine.

Leave your snowflake to dry, it usually needs to be left overnight, then remove the pins. Your snowflake can now have a loop added for hanging and it’s ready to be added to your Christmas home decor.

Hello! I just purchased the Snowflake pattern and I’m looking forward to making holiday gifts. In reading the pattern, I see a mention of the hdbc stitch (Round 6). Can you explain this?

Oops, that’s a typo. It should be hdc. I’ll get that updated, thank you

Oh, good thanks! I thought that might be it. I hate when that happens – I’m sure you reviewed many times 🙂
