You will need a 3.5mm hook for this square
Start by making a foundation chain of 32
Row 1. In the 4th chain from your hook make a double crochet (turning chain counts as a stitch) dc in the next 7 chains.
Next we need to make our first heart.
To make a heart, Chain 7. In the 3rd chain from your hook make a slip stitch. Slip stitch in the next 4 stitches – keep your slip stitches loose.
Chain 1 (I recommend putting a stitch marker in the chain).
On the opposite side of your chain, skip the first 2 stitches, then make a sc, hdc in the next stitch, then dc in the next stitch.
In the next stitch make 4trc, chain 4 and slip stitch into the same stitch.
Working in the opposite side of the same stitch, chain 4 and make 4 trc in the same stitch. In the next stitche make a dc, a hdc in the next stitch, and sc in the following stitch. Slip stitch into the chain 1 we marked earlier. Slip stitch through the top and side of the dc we chained 7 from.
This completes the heart.
DC in the next 21 stitches.
Turn
Row 2. Chain 1 (doesn’t count as a stitch) make the alternate turning chain in the 1st stitch. Dc in each stitch across.
Turn.
Row 3. Chain 1, make the alternate turning chain. Dc in the next 8 stitches. When you complete the last dc, take your hook out of the loop, and insert it through the slip stitch at the back of the heart from 2 rows below, right to left. Catch the loop from the dc back onto your hook, and pull it through the slip stitch. This secures the top of the heart to your square.
In the next 12 stitches make a dc. Then make another heart. Dc in the next 9 stitches
Turn
Row 4. Chain 1, make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. Dc in each stitch across. (30 stitches)
Turn
Row 5. Chain 1, make the alternate turning chain. Dc in the next 15 stitches then make a heart. Dc in the next 5 stitches then take your hook out of the loop, and insert it through the slip stitch at the back of the heart from row 3, right to left. Catch the loop from the dc back onto your hook, and pull it through the slip stitch. This secures the top of the heart to your square.

The Border
Sc in each stitch across the top and bottom edge
For the sides make 3sc in the side of rows 1 and 14. Make 2sc in the side of all other rows.
You should have 30 sc down each side, plus an extra stitch in each corner for the turn. This will make your stitch count as 32 stitches across each side and 124 stitches total (remember the extra stitch corner stitch is counted in the stitch count for both sides)
You have now finished your square and join and you can tie off and weave in the ends
You can now add the interlocking border, joining this weeks square to last weeks as you join. You can see how to do this here
